"Win It For Willie" Fund Set Up to Help Va. Intermont SID

FERRUM, Va. -- A special fund has been established by a bank in Bristol, Virginia, to aid Virginia Intermont Sports Information Director  Willie Belcher, currently in the battle of her life against cancer.  The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association asks you to consider making a donation to help our colleague.

180 Student-Athletes Named Academic All-State

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 2011 Virginia Sports Information Directors Association Academic All-State team was released on Friday with 31 schools and 186 student-athletes being honored for their academic performance this past school year.

Virginia Wins Fourth Straight All-Sports Championship

NORFOLK, Va. -- The University of Virginia won .660 percent of its intercollegiate athletic contests in 2010-11 to win the 33^rd annual VaSID University Division All-Sport championship. This is the Cavaliers 13^th overall title, fourth straight and sixth in the last eight years.

Roanoke's Tuma, Pilat Headline Men's Lacrosse Team

ASHLAND, Va. -- Roanoke senior Justin Tuma and Maroons’ field general Bill Pilat took home the top awards as Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, as part of the 2011 VaSID College Division Men’s Lacrosse All-State Team.  Randolph-Macon’s Justin Butler was tabbed Rookie of the Year.

CNU Wins 2010-11 College Division All-Sports Survey

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the third year in a row and the seventh time in the last 11 years, Christopher Newport took home first place honors in the VaSID All-Sports College Division Survey.  The Captains won a blistering 77.9% of their contests in 2010-11 as they combined for a 267-75-2 record.

USA South Sweeps College Division Baseball Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Shenandoah senior Greg Van Sickler repeated as the Player of the Year on the 2011 VaSID College Division Baseball All-State Team.  CNU shortstop Billy Steel grabbed Rookie of the Year honors and CNU head coach John Harvell collected his fourth Coach of the Year nod.

W&L's White Named Men's Tennis Player of the Year

FERRUM, Va. -- Washington and Lee's Hayden White has been named Player of the Year, headlining the 2011 VaSID College Division Men's Tennis All-State Team.  Mary Washington's Todd Helbling and Alex Blahkin have been named Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively.

Sweet Briar's Taylor Named Player & Rookie of the Year

FERRUM, Va. -- Sweet Briar freshman Ariel Taylor has been named Player and Rookie of the Year on the 2011 VaSID College Division Women's Tennis All-State Team.  Eric Ishida of Washington and Lee University earned Coach of the Year, his fourth consecutive honor.

Tidewater Area Nabs Top College Softball Honors

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport's Jessie Atkinson and Keith Parr have been named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, headlining the 2011 VaSID College Division Softball All-State Team.  Virginia Wesleyan freshman MacKenzie Creech earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Ferrum's Mitchell Named Men's Hoop Player of the Year

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Ferrum forward Derek Mitchell has been selected as Player of the Year, Virginia Wesleyan head coach Dave Macedo named Coach of the Year and VWC freshman guard D.J. Woodmore earned Rookie of the Year honors, topping the 2011 VaSID College Division All-State Men’s Basketball Team.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- CNU senior Chelsie Schweers became the first ever four-time VaSID College Division All-State Women's Basketball Player of the Year. CNU's Carolyn Hunter grabbed Coach of the Year honors for the third straight year and Eastern Mennonite’s Kala Yoders was tabbed Rookie of the Year.

Longwood Trio Headlines University Softball Team

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Longwood nabbed three of the top four honors on the 2011 VaSID University Division Softball All-State Team.  Brooke Short earned Player of the Year, Briana Wells Pitcher of the Year and Kathy Riley Coach of the Year.  Virginia Tech's Dani Anderson was named Rookie of the Year.

Virginia’s Henrich Repeats as VaSID Wrestler of the Year

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- For the second year in a row, Virginia’s Chris Henrich has been selected as the top wrestler in Virginia, while Virginia Tech’s Devin Carter and Kevin Dresser have been named the Commonwealth’s top freshman and coach, as selected by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) on Friday.

NORFOLK, Va. -- James Madison guard Dawn Evans has been selected as Player of the Year, Hampton head coach David Six is the Coach of the Year, and Virginia guard Ataira Franklin was picked as VaSID Rookie of the Year for the 2011 University Division All-State Women’s Basketball Team.
