Sweet Briar's Taylor Named Player & Rookie
of the Year in Women's Tennis
FERRUM, VA – Sweet Briar College
freshman Ariel Taylor has been named Player and Rookie of the
Year on the 2011 VaSID College Division Women's Tennis
All-State Team. Eric Ishida of Washington and Lee
University earned Coach of the Year, his fourth consecutive
honor.
Taylor played #1 singles
for the Vixens this season, compiling a 16-1 record and
qualifying for the 2011 NCAA Division III Singles Tournament.
She also went 13-5 in doubles en route to being the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference's Player of the Year and Rookie
of the Year.
Ishida led Washington and
Lee to a 20-7 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 ODAC
record. The Generals won the ODAC regular season and
tournament titles and competed in the 2011 NCAA Division III
Tournament.
Joining Taylor on the
All-State first team were Karen and Priscilla Montoya of
Hollins University, Lauren Lukas and Trelsie Sadler of
Washington and Lee, and Courtney Goimarac of the University of
Mary Washington.
Second team selections
include Christopher Newport University's Sarah Stafford and
Kim Morrissett, Roanoke College's Laura Dodson and Corbin
Leitch, W&L's Ellen Yeatman and Bridgewater College's Katie
Gordon.
