VaSID announced today that 137 collegiate
student-athletes were honored for their performances
both in the classroom and in competition as the
organization selected the 2009-10 VaSID Academic
All-State Team.

White, Detwiler Grab Top College Men's Tennis Honors
Hampden-Sydney's William Moss and Washington and
Lee's Hayden White captured top honors on the 2010
VaSID College Division Men's Tennis All-State Team.
Moss earned Player of the Year, while White earned
Rookie of the Year. W&L's David Detwiler
earned Coach of the Year.

Virginia won .693 percent of its
athletic contests in 2009-10 to win the 32nd
annual VaSID Division I All-Sports championship. This is the Cavaliers 12th
overall title, third straight and fifth in the last seven

University Baseball Honors
George Mason shortstop Ryan Soares was
named Player of the Year, while Virginia Tech's Pete Hughes
earned Coach of the Year on the University All-State
Baseball Team. Virginia's Danny Hultzen was named Pitcher of the Year, and VMI's Corey Spangenberg was voted Rookie of the Year.

Christopher Newport University won a school-record 72%
of its contest in 2009-10 to capture the Virginia Sports
Information Directors Association College Division All-Sports
Survey. This marks the sixth year since 2000-01 that the
Captains have won the overall award.

Henrich, Garland Named Top Wrestler and Coach; VA Tech’s Stephens
Best Freshman
Virginia’s Chris Henrich and Steve Garland helped lead
the Cavaliers to their first ACC championship in three
decades and the pair was honored, along with Virginia Tech’s
Brian Stephens, by receiving the top wrestling accolades
handed out by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.

All-State Team
VaSID released their 2009-10 Women’s
Basketball University Division All-State team today. This
year’s ballot saw Virginia guard Monica Wright
bring home Player of the Year honors, a repeat from a year
ago when she was Co-Player of the Year. JMU's Kenny Brooks was named Coach of the Year,
while Liberty’s Devon Brown earned Rookie of the
Year honors.

University All-State Football Team Named
Three schools were represented in the announcement of the top
awards for the VaSID All-State University Football Team for
the 2009 season. Honored were Virginia Tech running back Ryan
Williams as offensive player of the year and rookie of the
year, James Madison defensive end Arthur Moats as defensive
player of the year, and William & Mary’s Jimmye Laycock as
coach of the year.
