Lynchburg’s Hoath Named College Division Women’s
Soccer Player of the Year
Shenandoah’s Womack Rookie of the
Year, LC's Olson Coach of Year
FERRUM, Va. – Lynchburg College midfielder
Ashley Hoath has been named Player of the Year,
highlighting the 2009 College Division Women’s
Soccer All-State Team, as named by the Virginia
Sports Information Directors. Lynchburg’s
Dr. Todd Olsen was named Coach of the Year,
while Shenandoah University forward Amber Womack
earned Rookie of the Year.
2009 VaSID College Division Women’s Soccer
All-State Team
Hoath had seven goals and 11 assists for 25
points this season. The senior from
Alexandria, Virginia, was a first team
All-America selection in 2009 and 2008.
Womack was the 2009 USA South Athletic
Conference Rookie of the Year as well as first
team All-Conference. She had 12 goals and
10 assists for 34 points in helping the Hornets
finished 10-6-5 this season.
Olsen led Lynchburg to a 17-3-5 record this
season, capping the year with Lynchburg’s
first-ever NCAA Div. III Final Four appearance.
The Hornets lost in the NCAA Tournament
semifinals on penalty kicks to Washington
University in St. Louis.
The All-State first team consists of the top
three forwards, three midfielders, three
defenders and one goalkeeper, plus the next
highest vote-getter regardless of position.
The second team consists of the top three
forwards, three midfielders, three defenders and
one goalkeeper, plus the next highest
vote-getter regardless of position.
Joining Hoath and Womack on the 2009 VaSID
All-State first team were Ferrum College’s Lea
McMillan, Lynchburg’s Betsy Kwiatkowski and
Katelyn LaRiche, the University of Mary
Washington’s Amy Olson, Randolph Macon College’s
Erin Hauser, Roanoke’s Jessica Welfare and Alida
Haslett, Virginia Wesleyan College’s Stacy
Zeiler, and Washington and Lee University’s
Emily Leary.
Second team selections include Averett’s Hillary
Wood, Lynchburg’s Anna Wright, Shenandoah’s Kat
Terza, Southern Virginia University’s Kendra
Heim, Mary Washington’s Sarah Tyron and Karen
Strat, Virginia Wesleyan’s Jerilyn Idler and
Blaze Byrd, and Washington and Lee’s Allie
Espina, Maggie Sutherland, and Kat Dawson.
All-State
teams are selected by active members of the
Virginia Sports Information Directors
