Tech’s Nyarko & Weiss; JMU’s Sapong Earn VaSID Men’s Soccer
Honors
RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia Tech’s Patrick Nyarko was named
VaSID Men’s Soccer University Division Player of the Year and
Hokie head coach Oliver Weiss was named the Coach of the Year
in voting conducted among members of the Virginia Sports
Information Directors Association (VaSID). James
Madison’s CJ Sapong was named the state’s Rookie of the Year.
2007 VaSID University Men's Soccer All-State Team
Nyarko and Weiss have led the Hokies to an appearance in the
NCAA Final Four with a 14-3-5 overall record. Nyarko, who is
also on the VaSID Men’s Soccer University Division First-Team,
leads the Hokies with seven goals, 10 assists and 24 points.
Weiss is in his sixth year at Virginia Tech with a
career-record of 68-38-16 as he guides the Hokies to their
first-ever NCAA College Cup. Virginia Tech plays ACC rival
Wake Forest on Dec. 14 at 5 p.m.
Sapong is a freshman forward for James Madison who tied for
the CAA lead in goals with 10 and ranked fourth in the league
with 21 points.
The forward tied the Dukes’
freshman record for goals in a season and his point total was
the second-highest ever for a JMU rookie.
