RADFORD, Va. – For the second straight season, James Madison senior Corky Julian was tabbed the University Division State Player of the Year for women’s soccer announced Monday afternoon by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors.

2009 VaSID University Division Women's Soccer All-State Team

Julien, a Hermann Trophy watch list selection and member of the Canadian National Team, garnered back-to-back first team NSCAA all-region honors as well as being named to the CAA’s first team for the second straight season. The state leader in goals (14) and points (31) was tied for 15th and ranked 28th in the NCAA, respectively. Wrapping up a stellar four-year career for the Dukes, Julien finished second on JMU’s career goals (44) and points (102) lists.

Kallenberger was named to the CAA’s all-conference third team as well being a conference all-rookie honoree. She tallied nine goals, eight assists for 26 points and netted five game-winners for the Patriots. Her assists tied her for first on the squad, while goals and points were second.

Cagle guided the Hokies to a program-best 16-8-0 record and to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. That was just one of many firsts in Virginia Tech women’s soccer history. The Hokies also picked up their first two NCAA tournament victories, along with first-ever wins over Clemson, Virginia, Wake Forest and a top ranked team in North Carolina.

James Madison led the way with four overall selections and tied Virginia with three first team distinctions. The Cavaliers George Mason and Virginia Tech each totaled three honorees while VMI, Old Dominion and Liberty garnered two nods apiece. VCU, Radford and William & Mary each had one representative.

All-State teams are selected by active members of the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association.  For more information, please visit the VaSID site at http://www.ferrum.edu/athletics/vasid.
