Phillips, George, Dean Earn Top
College Division Men's Basketball Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Todd Phillips, of Eastern
Mennonite, was named Player of the Year, Harrison George, of
Hampden-Sydney, was Rookie of the Year and Eastern Mennonite’s
Kirby Dean was chosen Coach of the Year on the 2009-10
Virginia Sports Information Director’s (VaSID) men’s College
Division all-state basketball team it was announced today.
2010 VaSID College Division Men's Basketball All-State Team
Phillips, a 6-3 junior from Waynesboro, Va., led his team to
an Elite 8 berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
He averaged 17.4 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per contest
as the Royals compiled a 25-5 record and played in their
first-ever NCAA event. He was named first team All-American
and all-region by d3hoops.com and was a first team all-ODAC
choice.
George, a 6-5 freshman from Raleigh, N.C., was second on the
team in scoring with a 14.0 average and led the club in
rebounding at 7.1 per contest. He shot a fine .599 from the
floor. He was chosen ODAC Rookie of the Year as well as
honorable mention all-conference.
Dean, in his seventh year at the helm of the Royals, guided
his team to the NCAA Elite 8 and the best season in school
history. He was named National Association of Basketball
Coaches South Region Coach of the Year, as well as ODAC Coach
of the Year.
VaSID was formed in 1983, and is comprised of sports information
professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and
independent institutions from the state of Virginia. The purpose
of the organization is to promote college athletics at all
