NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors

JMU’s Kenny Brooks was named VaSID Coach of the Year and
Liberty’s Devon Brown (Waynesboro, Va.) earned Rookie of the
Year honors.
2010 VaSID University Division Women's Basketball All-State
Team
Wright, a 5-11 senior guard from Woodbridge, Va., a 1st Team
AP All-American averaging 23.7 points per game, 6.5 rebounds
per game and 2.5 assists a game. A 1st Team All-ACC player,
Wright was also a USBWA All-American, WBCA National
Defensive Player of the Year, WBCA State Farm Coaches’

Trophy for her success in 2009-10. She led the ACC in
scoring and broke her UVa single-season scoring record from
last year with 734 points this season. The Cavaliers
finished with a 21-10 record and reached the NCAA Tournament
for the 3rd year in a row. This is the second straight
Player of Year award for Wright, as she was Co-Player of the
Year in 2008-09. She was recently drafted #2 by the WNBA’s
Minnesota Lynx.
James Madison head coach Kenny Brooks led the Dukes to a
26-7 record. JMU captured the CAA Championship this year
earning them an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. They
produced regular-season wins over Top 25 teams Georgetown
and Virginia. The Dukes have earned 5 straight postseason
appearances while under Brooks and were either ranked or
receiving votes in Top 25 polls for 11 weeks.
Liberty’s Devon Brown, a redshirt freshman from Waynesboro,
Va., earned the VaSID Rookie of the Year honors after
leading the Big South in scoring and ranked among Big
South’s top 5 in rebounding (3rd), field goal percentage
(3rd), free-throw percentage (5th), and steals (5th). Brown
was the sixth-leading freshman scorer in the nation, which
earned her 1st Team All-Big South, Richmond Time-Dispatch
All-State team, Big South All-Tournament team and Big South
Tournament MVP. She helped her team lead the nation in
rebound margin (+13.9) by pulling down 8.2 rebounds per game
and ranking 2nd in the nation in both scoring defense
(50.0ppg) and field goal percentage (.482). Brown became the
2nd straight Liberty player to receive VaSID Rookie of the
Year honors and was also named to this year’s First Team.
Joining Wright and Brown on an illustrious first team are
