- Nash,
Hathorn Lead Women’s Lacrosse All-State Team

- ASHLAND, VA –
Virginia Wesleyan College senior midfielder Anne Marie Nash
(Norfolk, VA) was named the state Player of the Year, while
Washington and Lee University’s Jan Hathorn was named
the Coach of the Year, to headline the 2004 Virginia Sports
Information Directors All-State College Division Women’s
Lacrosse Team. The
team, which was announced Tuesday, was selected by Virginia
Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

- Nash was named a
third-team All-American, first-team all-South Atlantic Region,
and first-team all-Old Dominion Athletic Conference this season.
She scored 64 goals and distributed 59 assists for 123
total points, to go along with 64 ground balls and 42 draw
controls. Nash helped
the Marlins to the best finish in the history of the program
(15-3), as the team enjoyed a 15-game winning streak, tied for
first place in the ODAC regular season standings, and was the
conference tournament runner-up.

- Hathorn helped
Washington and Lee to a 15-4 overall finish, tying the
program’s record for wins in a season. The Generals won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference
tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second
year in a row.

- Leading the attack is
Washington and Lee senior Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, VA).
Virginia Wesleyan sophomore Laura Wallace
(Bridgewater, NJ) and Longwood University senior Carlee
Ullery (Keswick, VA) are also first-team selections at
attack.

- Joining Nash as
first-team midfielders are:
Longwood junior Emily Bikowski (Fairfax, VA);
Sweet Briar College senior Anne Benham (The Woodlands, TX);
Roanoke College senior Carrie Smith (Charlottesville, VA);
and Virginia Wesleyan first-year player Brittney Gricius
(Colorado Springs, CO).

- The first-team defense
is led by Mary Washington College senior Mel Block
(Annapolis, MD). She
is joined by Washington and Lee senior Sara Jurkowsky
(Annapolis, MD) and Randolph-Macon College sophomore Liz
Lombardo (Baltimore, MD). At goalkeeper, Washington
and Lee senior Joanna Perini (Huntington, NY) received
first-team honors.

- Eleven
schools placed at least one player on the 24-woman squad.
Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament runner-up
Virginia Wesleyan College led with five players, while
Washington and Lee University, the ODAC champion, and
Randolph-Macon College had four each. Longwood University had
three selections, and Mary Washington College had two.
Sweet Briar College, Roanoke College, Marymount
University, Christopher Newport University, Ferrum College, and
Lynchburg College each had one representative.
