CNU Wins 2009-10 VaSID All-Sports Survey

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – June 18, 2010 – Christopher Newport University won a school-record 72% of its contest in 2009-10 to capture the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association College Division All-Sports Survey.  This marks the sixth year since 2000-01 that the Captains have won the overall award.

The survey ranks all 27 non-NCAA Division I schools in the state by overall winning percentage.

Finishing second this year was Hampden-Sydney College with a 70.7% winning percentage, followed by Virginia Wesleyan College (61.4%), University of Mary Washington (59.2%) and Lynchburg College (59%).  Hampden-Sydney won the men’s division with its 70.7% winning percentage, while CNU took the women’s division with an impressive 80.2% winning percentage.

University of Mary Washington earned the most post-season sport bids with 11, followed by Christopher Newport (10) and Southern Virginia (7).  CNU won nine conference titles, with Mary Washington (8) followed by Lynchburg and Washington & Lee University with six each.


VaSID was formed in 1983, and is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of Virginia.
