ASHLAND, VA -- Roanoke College senior midfielder Justin Tuma and Maroons’ field general Bill Pilat took home the top awards as player of the year and coach of the year, respectively, as part of the 2011 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Men’s Lacrosse All-State Team.  Randolph-Macon’s Justin Butler was tabbed as the state rookie of the year.

Tuma earns player of the year of the year honors following a senior season in which he was named an All-American for the third-time in his career. The midfielder and two-year team captain holds the career season and game groundball records and is a three-time winner of the programs’ groundball award.  Tuma is a three-time All-ODAC selection and totaled 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points on the season, in addition to school-records of 257 face-off wins and 200 groundballs.

Pilat’s state coach of the year honor is the eighth time he has been recognized by the organization in his 22 year career.  In 2011, Pilat led RC to a 17-4 record and a 7-0 ODAC mark, running their conference regular season win streak to 21 games.   The Maroons captured the ODAC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA National Semifinals for the sixth time in school history.

Randolph-Macon’s Justin Butler was named VaSID Rookie of the Year.  Butler, who was also named the ODAC Rookie of the Year, finished his first season in Ashland with 28 points which was fourth on the Jackets' roster.  Butler's 25 goals were second on the team and he also added three assists as well.    Butler had eight multi-goal games on the season from his midfield position and put up 12 scores in seven league games this year.
