Moss, White, Detwiler Grab Top College Men's Tennis Honors

FERRUM, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College senior William Moss and Washington and Lee University freshman Hayden White captured top honors on the 2010 VaSID College Division Men's Tennis All-State Team.  Moss earned Player of the Year honors for the second straight year, while White earned Rookie of the Year.  W&L's David Detwiler earned Coach of the Year.

Moss closed out his senior year with a 9-4 record at #1 singles and a 13-4 mark at #1 doubles.  He is a four-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year, as well as a four-time VaSID All-State first team selection.  In 2007, he was the VaSID Rookie of the Year.

White went 23-11 this year at #1 singles, and 17-8 at #2 doubles.  He placed fourth at the ITA Small College Singles Championship last fall to earn All-America honors.  He was the ODAC Rookie of the Year, as well as the ITA Atlantic-South Rookie of the Year.  White qualified for the NCAA Div. III Singles Tournament.

Detwiler led Washington and Lee to a 16-9 overall record, winning the 2010 ODAC title and advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.  The generals closed out the season with a #25 national ranking.

Joining Moss and White on the All-State first team were Hampden-Sydney's Rich Pugh, Christopher Newport University's Eric Shulman, University of Mary Washington's Sam Wichlin and Roanoke College's John Roy.

Will Hall and Jeremy Becht of Washington and Lee, Evan Goff and Kaz Murata of Mary Washington, Chris Radke of Bridgewater College, and Gianandrea Heyer of Christopher Newport were all second team selections.


VaSID was formed in 1983, and is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of Virginia.
