Brown, Rowe, Rainey Headline College
All-State Softball Team
Emory, VA --- Christopher Newport University had five
individuals named to either the first or second team
all-state softball team, while Va. Wesleyan, Lynchburg
and Roanoke each had three named. Brittaney Brown of Va.
Wesleyan and Kristen Rowe of CNU earned CO-Players of
the Year honors while Leona Rainey of Roanoke earned
Rookie of the Year honors. Keith Parr of CNU earned
Coach of the Year honors this season after leading the
Captains to a 42-10 overall record, which included
making it as far as the “Elite Eight” in the NCAA
Tournament.
2010 VaSID College Division
Softball All-State
Team
Pitchers – Brittaney Brown of Va. Wesleyan (Sr.,
Chesapeake, VA) and Kristen Rowe of Christopher Newport
(Sr., Richmond, VA) were tabbed as Co-Players of the
Year. Brown set an ODAC record with 218 strikeouts this
season, with a 1.02 ERA and 25-8 w/l record. Rowe
collected 204 strikeouts along with a 24-6 w/l record
including two wins in the NCAA Tournament.
Outfielder -- Leona Rainey (Fr., Sandston, VA) earned
Rookie of the Year honors while posting a .466 batting
avg, along with 30 Stolen Bases. She also earned ODAC
Rookie of the Year and 3rd team All-Region
honors for the Maroons of Roanoke.
VaSID was formed in 1983, and is comprised of sports information
professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and
independent institutions from the state of Virginia. The purpose
of the organization is to promote college athletics at all
